WHAT WORKOUTS DO TO YOUR HORMONES
Or better yet, what they do for your hormones
I actually started off as a personal trainer, way before I began my journey as a health coach.
And trust me when I say I know the importance of movement for hormonal health!
Everything I preach and teach about I did myself first.
HOW WORKOUTS HELP YOUR HORMONES
I give all of my clients a bespoke workout program to help them heal, because workouts help:
ā
āØ Manage menopause / perimenopause symptoms
Exercise can reduce symptoms like hot flashes, night sweats, and mood fluctuations by supporting regular hormone levels and helping you avoid the dreaded hormone slump that comes with perimenopause.
ā
āš° Promote insulin sensitivity
This one's for my PCOS girls! As you know, insulin sensitivity can be a symptom of PCOS (but also other hormonal imbalances, too). Physical activity improves insulin sensitivity by helping blood sugar regulation. This in turn supports your s*x hormone levels overall.
š©ø Reduce PMS Symptoms
Physical activity can alleviate your PMS symptoms like mood swings, bloating, and fatigue, partly due to its hormone regulation properties, and partly due to the release of endorphins during exercise.
š Enhance your mood
Workouts trigger the release of feel-good chemicals like dopamine and serotonin, promoting feelings of happiness and reducing stress, anxiety, and depression. Perfect if you feel super irritable right before or during your period!
š§ Controls cortisol levels
ā
āModerate exercise helps control cortisol, the stress hormone, preventing it from reaching chronically high levels, which can have negative effects on various bodily functions.
š¤ Support thyroid function
ā
āRegular exercise may support thyroid function, which is crucial for your metabolism AND hormonal balance.
FINAL THOUGHTS
āIf working out feels way too hectic, or going into a gym is super overwhelming, I can teach you how to work out at your own pace and still see results šŖ
ā
āIf you comment "RYR" below I'll send you the details to my transformational health program, it includes all kinds of workouts for your overall health, and you can see if the program feels right for you š

SHEREE'S HEALTH DIARIES
Why you should stop swapping your butter for margarineā¦ and how cholesterol positively affects your hormones
STOP trying to lower cholesterol š š¼āāļøespecially through your diet! It could be hurting your hormones! Let me explain:
Our bodies are smart ā they know what to do (even if you eat a few extra slices of bacon one day š). Your body KNOWS that it needs to metabolise (break down) cholesterol. But it needs key nutrients to do so.
If we just try to lower cholesterol we end up just lowering our ability to produce sex hormonesā¦ And this leads to:
š©ø Heavier periods with heaps of PMS symptoms
š® Losing your libido
š¤ Low energy levels
š Slower metabolism
This isn't a solution!
Keep reading to to understand why this can happen, and for what you SHOULD be doing if you've been told you need to "watch your cholesterol"
ABOUT THE CHOLESTEROL MYTH
Firstly 80% of your cholesterol is made by the liver, your dietary intake only contributes 20% to the total cholesterol in your body.
We actually need cholesterol to make our mother hormone pregnenolone, which can then convert into progesterone and then cortisol, estrogen and testosterone.
Cholesterol is a key factor for hormone productionā¦ but we need key nutrients to convert it into hormones, specifically zinc and essential fatty acids. If youāre deficient in zinc or essential fatty acids, then cholesterol canāt be converted into pregnenolone and thatās when it accumulates and becomes a problem for the liver to deal with.
Some great sources of zinc include: oysters, dark chocolate, chickpeas, eggs, pumpkin seeds and spinach. And for your essential fatty acids, try adding in avocados, oily fish like salmon and tuna, walnuts, seaweed, hemp seeds and kidney beans. Make sure you get those key nutrients in to support your body's natural breakdown of cholesterol.
We also need to make sure that we optimise your liver function (this tends to be where I start when it comes to high cholesterol levels), as this is the deeper issue often in combination with the deficiencies.
It is also why I donāt recommend cutting out high cholesterol foods like butter and eggs, because they arenāt the problem and they wonāt be what makes the big difference in your cholesterol balancing out and you feeling more energised.

THE SCIENCE BEHIND GUT HEALING & HORMONES

SHEREE'S HEALTH DIARIES
Did you know that the health of your gut plays a crucial role in maintaining hormonal balance and boosting your energy levels? Let's dive into the fascinating science behind this powerful connection.
THE 5 CONNECTIONS EXPLAINED
1ļøā£ Gut Microbiota: The trillions of bacteria residing in your gut, known as the microbiota, have a profound impact on hormone production and metabolism. A balanced and diverse gut microbiota is essential for optimal hormonal function.
2ļøā£ Inflammation and Hormones: Poor gut health can lead to chronic inflammation, which disrupts hormone production and signalling. By healing the gut and reducing inflammation, you can restore hormonal balance and reclaim your energy.
3ļøā£ Nutrient Absorption: A healthy gut allows for proper absorption of essential nutrients, including those needed for hormone synthesis and regulation. Nourishing your gut with nutrient-dense foods ensures your hormones have the building blocks they need.
4ļøā£ The Gut-Brain Axis: The gut and brain communicate through a bidirectional pathway called the gut-brain axis. A balanced gut positively influences brain health, mood, and stress response, all of which impact hormonal balance and energy levels.
5ļøā£ Gut-Immune System Connection: The gut houses a significant portion of your immune system. A strong immune system supports overall health, including proper hormonal function and sustained energy throughout the day.
FINAL THOUGHTS
Understanding the intricate relationship between gut health, hormones, and energy empowers you to take proactive steps towards healing your gut and revitalising your well-being.
Remember, nurturing your gut is a powerful investment in your hormonal harmony and limitless energy! š±š«

Dear Beautiful Soul,
Youāre not going to believe where you are right now. The smile on your face cannot be shaken and the love in your heart will never fade. You are sharing your light, you are sharing your gifts with the world and you are expanding and exploding with joy.
Your soul aligned mission on this earth that has been divinely guided is being lived in right here, right now.
I know where you are in this moment is tough, I know that it feels like the world is crumbling around you and at times like it is all too much. I know that this is not where or how you pictured your life at this point and I want you to know that it is okay to grieve that.
I also want you to know that it is all coming. This is the initiation. A chance for you to reset. To realign your life to your higher calling, to your deeper purpose and also a chance for you to be the fullest, most beautiful expression of yourself.
It is by stepping into this version of yourself that you will attract everything that youāve ever wanted and more, and let me tell youā¦ it is SO MUCH MORE than you couldāve ever dreamed.
I want to take a moment to see you, to recognise the strength you have had, the vulnerability you have shown, the beauty you have been amongst the chaos and your willingness to continue the fight.
I also want you to take a moment to acknowledge how far you have come and how much you have accomplished, your younger self would be so proud of you if she could see the woman you have become now. Honour that.
You are beautiful, loving, kind and beyond words. This life may not be kind at times, but rememberā¦ No one else in this world can do what you do, the way you do it, and that my darling is your superpower.
It is my hope for you that you will trust the path you are on right now, and know that God/Universe/Source has your back every step of the way.
I wish you could see yourself the way the world sees you, you light up every room you are in, your heart transcends the time, space and fear and allows others to feel safe and seen, your ability to simply be is enough. You are enough, exactly as you are.
I love you. I love you. I love you. Thank you for being you, thank you for existing and remember to never stop shining your beautiful light, the world needs you. I need you. You are enough.
And so it is.

THIS IS WHATāS DRAINING YOUR ENERGY

SHEREE'S HEALTH DIARIES
More sleep isn't the answer to your lingering fatigue
Sure, more rest can definitely help you feel less tired, but you need to address what the underlying issue is that's draining your energy in the first place
You might see this everywhere, but gut inflammation is very closely linked to fatigue
If your body is constantly inflamed from the foods you're eating, the stress you're feeling, or not recovering effectively from training, it will really start to zap your energy levels
REASONS GUT INFLAMMATION IS MAKING YOU FEEL TIRED
These are the top 3 reasons why gut inflammation is causing you to feel tired all of the time:
1. You're not absorbing nutrients from your food
Gut inflammation can lead to poor nutrient absorption, meaning you're not getting enough vitamins and minerals from the food you're eating, leading to fatigue and low energy.
2. Your immune system is running in overdrive
The immune system uses so much energy to fight inflammation and repair damaged tissues, which can take away from your daily energy stores and make you feel fatigued.
3. Your hormonal balance is completely disrupted
Gut inflammation negatively affects the production of hormones, particularly cortisol, causing imbalances that could be contributing to your decreased energy levels and your feelings of fatigue.

5 HORMONES AFFECTING YOUR ABILITY TO LOSE WEIGHT

SHEREE'S HEALTH DIARIES
Hormone health plays a crucial role in achieving and maintaining a healthy weight.
When it comes to weight loss, we often arenāt looking deep enough, we blame it on the food we are eating and the lack of movement and simply think more is more.Ā
Well thatās not the case, there are so many factors that impact your ability to lose weight, and hormones are one of them. Hereās howā¦
HORMONES THAT AFFECT YOUR ABILITY TO LOSE WEIGHT
1. Insulin:
Insulin is a hormone responsible for regulating blood sugar levels. When insulin levels are imbalanced, such as in insulin resistance, weight gain becomes more likely. Balancing insulin through dietary changes and lifestyle modifications can support weight loss efforts.
2. Leptin:
Leptin, known as the satiety hormone, signals to your brain when you're full. However, hormonal imbalances can lead to leptin resistance, causing a disruption in appetite regulation and potentially leading to overeating. Restoring leptin sensitivity through proper nutrition and lifestyle choices can aid in weight management.
3. Cortisol:
Cortisol, the stress hormone, plays a role in metabolism and fat storage. Chronic stress can lead to elevated cortisol levels, promoting weight gain, particularly around the abdominal area. Managing stress through relaxation techniques, exercise, and self-care practices can help balance cortisol and support weight loss.
4. Thyroid Hormones:
Thyroid hormones, such as T3 and T4, regulate metabolism. When thyroid function is impaired, it can result in a slower metabolism and difficulty losing weight. Addressing underlying thyroid issues through proper medical guidance can support weight loss efforts.
5. Estrogen and Progesterone:
Hormonal imbalances, particularly in estrogen and progesterone, can impact weight regulation, water retention, and fat distribution. Restoring hormonal balance through lifestyle modifications, targeted nutrition, and, if necessary, hormonal therapies can aid in achieving weight loss goals.

SHEREE'S HEALTH DIARIES
Here are five powerful ways to start balancing your hormones and restore balance within your body.
START BALANCING YOUR HORMONES WITH THESE STEPS
1ļøā£ Nourish with leafy greens: incorporating more leafy greens into your diet can have a profound impact on hormone balance.
These nutrient-packed greens, such as spinach, kale, and Swiss chard, are rich in vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants that support hormonal health.
2ļøā£ Embrace daily sunshine: getting regular sunlight exposure is crucial for hormonal balance.
Spend at least 15 minutes outdoors each day to soak up the natural vitamin D from the sun.
This not only helps regulate hormones but also boosts mood and overall well-being.
3ļøā£ Connect with nature: nature has a way of bringing harmony to our bodies and minds.
Make it a priority to spend time in nature, whether it's a walk in the park, hiking, or simply sitting under a tree.
The serene environment can help reduce stress and promote hormonal equilibrium.
4ļøā£ Deep belly breaths: taking deep belly breaths throughout the day can activate the relaxation response and help regulate your hormones.
Practice deep breathing exercises by inhaling slowly through your nose, allowing your belly to rise, and exhaling fully through your mouth.
5ļøā£ Cultivate mindfulness: carve out time each day for a mindful activity that brings you joy and tranquillity.
It could be meditation, yoga, journaling, or simply savouring a cup of herbal tea.
Mindfulness helps reduce stress, promotes emotional well-being, and supports hormonal balance.
FINAL THOUGHTS
Remember, these steps are not only beneficial for your hormones but also for your overall well-being.
Start incorporating these practices today and experience the transformative power of balanced hormones in your life! šøš«

Is Sugar Really That Bad For You
IS SUGAR REALLY THAT BAD FOR YOU?
19 / APRIL / 2023
SHEREE'S HEALTH DIARIES
Sugar is such a controversial topic in the health and wellness world. The truth is, sugar is sugar, regardless of its form or name (IMO). And consuming too much sugar can have a detrimental effect on our gut health, leading to digestive issues and inflammation in the body.
Unfortunately, there are many different names for sugar, which makes it difficult to identify in the ingredient list of food products. Common names for sugar include agave, cane, caramel, maple syrup, and coconut sugar. However, it's important to understand that they all contain a high amount of fructose, which can be damaging to our bodies in excess.
Consuming too much sugar can cause an overgrowth of harmful bacteria in our gut, leading to inflammation and a weakened immune system. This is why it's crucial to be mindful of our sugar intake and choose whole, natural foods that are low in added sugars. By understanding the various names for sugar and being more mindful of our food choices, we can take control of our gut health and overall wellbeing.
ADDICTION TO SUGAR
Did you know that sugar can be more addictive than cocaine? It's true! When we consume sugar, our brains release dopamine, a neurotransmitter associated with pleasure and reward. This flood of dopamine can create a feeling of euphoria, which can lead to cravings for more sugar. Studies have shown that sugar activates the same areas of the brain as drugs of abuse, such as cocaine and heroin. In fact, in one study, rats were given the choice between sugar water and cocaine, and they chose the sugar water every time. This suggests that sugar may be even more rewarding and addictive than cocaine. Crazy right!?
But the problem with sugar addiction goes beyond just cravings and pleasure. Over time, consuming too much sugar can lead to a host of health problems, such as hormonal imbalances, bacterial overgrowths in the gut, poor sleep, lethargy and fatigue, as well as obesity, type 2 diabetes, and heart disease. By reducing your sugar consumption and making healthier choices, you can improve your overall health and wellbeing.
INCREASED SUGAR CONSUMPTION + WHAT YOU CAN DO
This may surprise you, but you could be consuming more than 35 kilograms (77 pounds) of sugar per year without even realising it! Statistics suggest that as recently as 100 years ago, the average person only ate around 1 kilogram (2 pounds) of sugar per year. Now, it is reported to be about 35 kilograms (77 pounds) per person, per year! That is 35 times more sugar than what our (great) grandparents were eating, and it's unlikely that the increase is from an extra consumption in vegetable intake.
The increase in sugar consumption is mainly due to hidden sugars, processed sugars, and overconsumption of them. The condiments from the grocery store, tinned foods, and even bread sometimes contain added sugars. This is why it's so important to learn the balance when it comes to sugar, as you may be consuming far more than you realise.
If you want to detox your body from sugar and support your body in sleeping better, increased energy, improved moods, more balanced hormones, and a happier gut, join me in the 30-day sugar-free sprint. This program can help you reduce your sugar intake and improve your overall health and wellbeing. Check out the link here for all the details.

SHEREE'S HEALTH DIARIES
It's time you were taken seriously when you have concerns about your health.
It has brought me to tears the last few weeks, not just what Iām about to share, but all the stories that followed in your messages and comments on my Instagram post about this very topic.
I am a huge advocate for patient/client care and believe that the holistic approach, and the work myself and other like minded practitioners do, should be a collaborative effort with medical professionals like doctors for whoever needs care that is in front of us, itās not one or the other.
But I wanted to share this story with you, because I know too many women who have been told their blood work was ānormalā and that they just have to live with itā¦ this is not the case, and certainly wasnāt the case for my client whose story I am sharing with you below.
ADVOCATING FOR YOURSELF
So this happened just over a week agoā¦
I had a client that just couldn't shift weight, a few things had popped up in the limited blood work her doctor had permitted her to do, but things just weren't working.
She was eating PERFECTLY, like I take my hat off to her, whole real nourishing foods, following protocols 100%, yet the weight wasn't shifting and I knew there was more to the picture (another reason why testing is so important)... we have to get to the root cause.
She went to her doctor about the weight loss issue, asking to investigate this further and requested a few more bloods. To which the doctor refused the blood work, blamed her weight on assumed case of PCOS, and then told her she shouldn't be working with a nutritionist (aka me) because we don't know what we're talking about - she actually said a lot worse about me but I'll leave it out.
So I took matters into my own hands, reached out to my own personal doctor to enable her to get these extra tests done, and GUESS WHAT HAPPENED?
She was diagnosed with an AUTOIMMUNE CONDITION of her thyroid, and her blood readings were off the charts! (meaning that this has most likely been going on for a long time under the radar).
This completely explains why she's been unable to lose the weight, and has actually been feeling progressively worse no matter how many healthy changes she made in her diet and life.
FINAL THOUGHTS
Left untreated and ignored this could've been so much worse, and I am so grateful we pushed and got to the root cause for her... we both knew something wasn't right and there was more to this picture.
So let this serve as a reminder... no matter what YOU know your body best, trust your intuition, and if something doesn't seem right, don't be afraid to keep questioning it until you get REAL answers!
Yours in Health & Happiness,
