I am the leanest, lightest, happiest, and healthiest I have been in almost a decade…

And it isn't from being on a diet or doing a protocol or a whole host of supplements that I've been taking. It’s from mastering the basics

HOW I MASTERED THE BASICS

  1. Regulating my nervous system
    I stopped letting cortisol have a chokehold on my life, and it shows. Your stress levels directly dictate if your body can burn fat, or if it’s stuck in fight-or-flight, burning glucose only.
  2. Eating real foods 80% of the time
    I fundamentally believe food is medicine and we can use it to heal and change our bodies for the better. Of course, everything in moderation, which is why I aim for at least 80% whole foods.
  3. Finding my community
    Having been surrounded by an incredibly supportive and loving community, I’ve had the chance to make connections to fulfil me and help me on my journey.
  4. Drinking 3+ litres of water a day
    This might seem like a lot (I know everyone tells you to stop at 2 litres), but hydration is the single most important thing for your body to function. You need to keep yourself hydrated to shed excess weight, too.
  5. Apple cider vinegar before meals
    This is incredible for avoiding a blood sugar spike (which would normally signal to your body to store more fat over time), as well as reducing blood sugar dips, stabilising your appetite, too.
  6. Moving my body in ways I love
    I’ve always loved training in the gym, BUT there are also other ways in which I move my body daily. I absolutely love walking or doing a soul cycle class. It’s all about balance and finding what works for you.
  7. Listening to my body, always
    I trust in what my body asks for, whether that’s an extra rest day, certain food, practising gratitude and self-care. Most importantly, I give my body the respect it deserves and never talk down on myself!
  8. Spending time in nature
    Absolutely nothing beats getting some sun and fresh air, grounding yourself in nature, and getting some movement in at the same time, too. It’s the most fundamental way to heal, recover, and reduce stress.
  9. Starting my day with movement
    Okay, I talk about how much I love working out but seriously, my favourite thing to do is start my day with any type of movement. This kick starts your metabolism, supports blood sugar levels, and boosts your mood!
  10. Prioritising NEAT every single day
    NEAT stands for non-exercise activity thermogenesis, and refers to ways in which we expend energy aside from exercise-related activity, for example things like walking, cooking, or gardening.
  11. Practising gratitude daily
    And finally... maybe the most important thing for me, and I couldn’t have shed those 10 lbs without this. Gratitude practices help me stay centred and in tune with myself. Plus, this helps reduce stress (cortisol) levels, which as I mentioned is one of the main things you need to prioritise to burn body fat.

HOW TO FAST TRACK YOUR GUT HEALTH

If you’ve landed here, I am going to guess it is for one of two reasons, you are either super interested in optimising your health and well-being or you are like the millions of people like myself out there who have battled with gut health for quite some time! 

Whichever group you fit into, WELCOME! You are in the right place! Whether you are wanting to optimise your gut, or fast track your healing journey so you are no longer bloated, gassy, have irregular bowel movements, struggle with candida, IBS, leaky gut, food intolerances or SIBO then look no further! 

I am going to be sharing with you my favourite and super simple way to FAST TRACK your gut health (or the healing of your gut). 

ABOUT THE GUT FAST

If you’ve been on my IG recently, you will know that I just completed a second round of my 4-Day Gut Fast. It is essentially 4 days of putting key nutrients into your body to speed up the healing journey, whilst starving off the bad guys! 

Essentially it gives the gut a break from digestion, and assists in the healing journey, I like to think of it like hitting the reset button! Which we can all do with from time to time. 

This is my second time completing the fast and after adjustments from the first time I ran through it, I had an even better experience this time around! I feel so incredible on the fast that I actually think I will repeat it regularly around once every 3 - 6 months just to keep my gut health in check! 

BENEFITS OF THE GUT FAST

It may sound really hard, and believe me, I never thought I would be able to get through it, but once you have gotten past day two, it’s actually really easy. My clients who have also completed the fast have been surprised at just how quickly the 4 days went, and that is probably because of how much energy, clarity, and improvements in their overall health that happened in such a short space of time.

My only precaution is If you have a reaction that doesn’t leave after day two, I suggest you stop the fast. But for most people, completing this 4 day fast track is incredibly effective! 

There’s a lot of questioning about whether females should be fasting, and this is a very fair point, your typical intermittent fasting, is NOT ideal, whether it is for certain days or certain hours, it has a really negative effect on our hormones over time (there is so much I could say around this, so I am going to do a separate blog on it). 

But, long story short, the 4-day fast track is more of a one off, or once every so often situation so will not have the same consequences, if anything, fast tracking the healing of the gut will enable your hormones to be healthier! 

The key when it comes to the fast is not only completing the 4-days, but what you do after the 4-days. We cannot expect our body to be healed after 4-days when there is potentially years of damage, so following some guidelines to support your gut healing post-fast will also be incredibly beneficial in optimising your gut health!
