TOP 10 PODCAST SHOWS OF 2021

02 / NOVEMBER / 2021
SHEREE'S HEALTH DIARIES

Knowledge, laughs, a conversation with a friend is one of the best ways I can describe listening to a podcast! I love listening to experts share their stories, connect with their audience and educate on such a deep level!

My only disappointment when it comes to podcasts is that I didn’t start listening to them sooner! Not only do I no longer listen to the radio in my car, but if I am going anywhere longer than 10 minutes, I will pop one on… the nuggets of wisdom are amazing!

There are too many epic episodes to list, but I do have my go to shows that I have loved over the years and below are my top shows for 2021! My advice, click on each and then scroll through the episodes that resonate.

My collection is health, meets spirituality, meets empowerment, meets business! I hope you enjoy… and would love it if you shared your favourite podcast episode with me in the comments below!

MY TOP 10 PODCASTS

  • The BossBabe Podcast - Natalie Ellis + Danielle Canty

Experts on business, instagram and all things social media, these ladies have the most incredible experts on to share their knowledge, as well as fantastic solo episodes. This is my number one go-to when I get in the car. Not to mention they love their health and wellness so their guests are EPIC in this area too, including hormone experts such as Dr. Jolene Brighton and Alisa Vitti.

  • On Purpose - Jay Shetty

Jay Shetty is such a breath of fresh air, if I am ever looking to lift my mood, shift my perspective, or learn something new about myself, this podcast always hits me with the feels and the science to back it up. Shetty’s style brings the personal to personal development and I am always excited by the guests he has on. My favourite episode to date is the one with Dr. Joe Dispenza.

  • The Period Party - Nicole Jardim

Hormone expert and author of Fix Your Period, this incredible woman is another mentor of mine, and I cannot believe the value she brings to every episode. There is always so much to learn and Nicole is amazing at breaking things down, keeping them simple and giving you actionable steps to help you on your hormone journey (or in my case, help me help my clients).

  • The Tony Robbins Podcast

I started these podcasts right from the beginning, and to say they were LIFE CHANGING would be an understatement. Tony Robbins is one of my all time favourite human beings and it was listening to his podcasts that inspired me to go to his UPW event (which was even more life changing). If you are just getting started on your personal development journey, or are ready to take control of your life, give these a listen!

  • The Highest Self Podcast - Sahara Rose

Sahara Rose brings such divine feminine beauty into my world whenever I get the opportunity to listen to her podcast, whether it is talking about Ayurvedic practices, business or embodying your inner Goddess, this podcast will empower you to embrace and become your highest self!

  • Revolution Health Radio - Chris Kresser

Kresser’s podcast is one that follows my very same philosophy around health and well-being, and the guests are amazing experts in their respective fields. Chris’s philosophy around functional medicine is what got me so focused into researching to find the root cause, knowing there is always more than meets the eye and that treating symptoms alone is not the solution.

  • Super Soul - Oprah Winfrey

A woman who needs no introduction, Oprah Winfrey is a force to be reckoned with, and these deeper soul level conversations often hit it at the heart, giving valuable insight and wisdom from her personal experiences as well as having some of the leading world experts share their knowledge. So much power and such amazing conversations - deep, healing personal development kind of podcast.

  • The Doctor’s Farmacy - Dr. Mark Hyman

Another expert in the functional medicine space, Dr. Mark’s holistic approach to health is one I place in high regard. It is very science based, but super simple to understand and can really help answer some questions that you may be having in regards to your health, and has an awesome philosophy of using food as our medicine to heal.

  • Dr. Ruscio Radio - Dr. Michael Ruscio

Author of Happy Gut, Happy You - one of my all time favourite gut health books, this functional medicine doctor gets deep into the science and testing when it comes to healing on a physical level. They are definitely deep dives into specific topics so it pays to have a scroll through to discover which episodes are going to be most relevant to you or that spike your curiosity to learn.

  •  The School of Greatness - Lewis Howes

Another incredible author, Lewis Howes, brings a different vibe to personal development, focusing on mindset, wellness and overall success. There are literally over 1000 episodes to dive into and the topics are super fascinating. I am constantly amazed by just how incredible humans are and what can happen when our mind is in the right space to thrive!

MY TAKEAWAY

Podcasts are amazing, I always walk away having learnt at least one new thing, and it is such a gift to have access to these incredible minds in our pockets right now, so make the most of it, soak up the knowledge, and even more importantly APPLY it. That is where the TRUE magic happens!

Moon And Menstrual Cycle

DOES THE MOON REALLY AFFECT YOUR MENSTRUAL CYCLE?

20 / OCTOBER / 2021
SHEREE'S HEALTH DIARIES

We as humans ARE nature, our cells are nature, our bodies are nature, we were born from nature and so the connection between human beings and the nature that surrounds us is always something worth exploring!

When you look into the iconic symbol of the ‘yin yang’ - it is said the females are a representation of the yin and that males are a representation of the yan. And in fact, everything in our world is represented by one or the other because of the duality in the Universe.

Following this more spiritual notion, the Sun is connected to the Yang energy and the Moon is connected to the Yin energy. This contrast, opposites and connection between the moon and feminine energy is something that has been studied and believed for generations.

When you look at an average moon cycle, it lasts roughly 29.5 days and a female menstrual cycle lasts around 28 days (a healthy cycle however is anywhere from 24 - 35 days).

The moon also has a dramatic effect in changing the tides, the ocean literally responds to the moon, and with humans being 70% water, it really got me thinking about the effect that the moon has on our bodies, particularly as females and with our flow.

A LITTLE HISTORY

In ancient times, it is said that women would live in harmony with their cycles with most women bleeding on the new moon, and ovulating around the full moon. I see this same pattern with clients every single day! It blows my mind! And a lot of the time we are totally unaware of it.

It has even been said that depending on the stage of life you are in, will determine which moon phase you sync up to… I am yet to explore this in deeper context, but the whole idea truly fascinates me.

What I have learnt through living in sync with my cycle, is how much each phase is connected to a different emotional/mental/physical/spiritual state in the body and it is a true honour to witness.

The beautiful thing is, if you take it a layer deeper, that the moon honours these same phases, particularly around the new moon and full moon.

MOON PHASES

The new moon is a time for intention setting, letting things go, and planting seeds for new beginnings. It is the perfect time to shed and release what no longer serves you, much like your uterine lining along with any emotional and mental stress or beliefs.

The full moon on the other hand is a time where we take a look into our energy, how we are showing up in the world and how our intentions are manifesting, it is similar to ovulation in the sense that this is the time females typically feel most abundant with energy, most alive within themselves and higheten their vibrations!

There are a number of parallels one can draw between the moon phases, and menstrual phases - like the fact there are four of each - new moon, waning phase, full moon, waxing phase - menstruation, follicular, ovulation, luteal.

But ultimately, I think it comes down to what you feel drawn and connected to in your heart. For some, this will feel a bit ‘woo’ and others will be drawn to the magic of it all! I am definitely in the latter! Either way, enjoy the beauty that your cycle beholds - with or without the moon!

So whilst the jury is still out on this from a scientific basis, I do deeply believe that we are connected to something bigger than us, and we are nature… so this is a practice I will continue to put into place to honour my cycle and the moon!

Period Underwear Review Are They Worth The Hype

PERIOD UNDIES - YAY OR NAY? MY PERSONAL EXPERIENCE!

13 / OCTOBER / 2021
SHEREE'S HEALTH DIARIES

Isn’t it just the worst when you think your period is over, so you put on your good underwear only to have a spotting occur the day you thought you were in the clear? (EVERY TIME!)

I knew there had to be a better option!

Period underwear are becoming more and more popular over past years, as people shift away from the conventional tampons and pads to something that is more natural and sustainable.

Up until these past years, I had never really thought anything more of ‘popping in a tampon’ and blocking my flow, and had done this ever since I could remember. More recent years I had changed to organic tampons and pads to reduce the impact I was having on the planet…

But in all seriousness, the pads were the worst and most uncomfortable, I used to do the ‘naughty thing’ sometimes and sleep with a tampon in. Toxic shock syndrome anyone? In all seriousness… this isn’t a joke and so I did stop after realising how common it was.

Tampons aside… I started to connect more to my cycle, understanding that ‘that time of the month’ was not something to be dreaded or something to be blocked up and look the other way.

Rather, my whole perspective on periods shifted when I discovered the magic that they bring and the importance of connecting to our cycle.

Your monthly bleed is a time to really release, let go, cleanse and shed. Although this shedding is not just physically shedding the uterine lining, but also mentally, emotionally and spiritually all that is no longer serving you. Letting go of all that may have accumulated these past months.

It was upon this realisation and truly understanding what my body was designed to do that I started to question if tampons and pads were really what my body needed and if I should be blocking my natural flow every single month!

So, I decided to give period underwear a try!

MY EXPERIENCE

A beautiful brand here in New Zealand that I had been following for a while had some great designs and beautiful story so I did some more research, and bought myself a few pairs to try out for my next bleed from @awwaperiodcare

Here’s how it went…

I was a little nervous in all honesty! What if they leak? What if they smell? Are they going to be comfortable? Will they show through my activewear? Will it feel weird? Is washing them going to be gross?

Well I was able to answer all of those questions after the first day, no leakage, no smell, definitely comfortable (as comfortable as they can be whilst having a layer of absorbency), for the most part they didn’t show through my activewear (I am talking panty lines here) - but that is the same for any underwear, it depends on the style.

It did feel kinda strange at first, like anything new, they take a bit to get used to, but after the first day it felt completely natural, and I barely noticed a difference!

In regards to washing them, I actually view my period as a beautiful process, and the bleed is something natural that occurs from my body, so no, in my opinion it wasn’t ‘gross’ at all, but part of being a woman.

I have to say, overall I was very impressed and something I noticed whilst wearing them was how much more connected to my body I felt. I felt more in flow, I felt more at ease… AND I had less cramping than usual!

Now I don’t normally experience much cramping as it is, but it was even less than the odd little cramp, and I attribute this to the ability of my shedding being able to flow.

I found it really freeing, I didn’t feel like I was wasting a pad or having a tampon up unnecessarily on the off chance I bled early or the bleeding hadn’t stopped. I felt comfortable whilst I slept with no leakage and even did yoga comfortably.

I am honestly so impressed and excited about getting a few more in fun colours and styles! It’s definitely a change, but a super positive one in my opinion! Definitely recommend!

WANT TO KNOW MORE

Here are some questions I got asked about them…

How do period underwear work?

I am not an expert in this area, so have left it to those who are, here’s how AWWA period underwear work:

https://awwaperiodcare.com/pages/how-period-underwear-works

Are period underwear comfortable?

Yes! I found them comfortable, just make sure you get the right sizing as they are a tight fit.

Do period underwear smell?

Not that I experienced, and they are definitely designed to avoid the smell, but ‘the smell’ in general can be an indication of the vaginal microbiome being out of balance I have found, so it is worth looking into this.

Where to buy period underwear?

This is where I got mine!

The SHW Hormone Balancing Latte Recipe

THE SHWELLNESS HORMONE BALANCING LATTE RECIPE

5 / OCTOBER / 2021
SHEREE HEALTH DIARIES

If you’re looking for a yummy drink, that is not only going to support your hormones, but become your morning coffee replacement, you’ve come to the right place!

When it comes to balancing your hormones, one of the number one things you can do is actually take a break (or completely come off) caffeine!

Why? Well, a cup of coffee is like a cup of cortisol!

Yup, your morning mug that’s ‘getting you through the day’ is probably contributing to your hormones being out of whack. But hey, I’m not here to take your coffee away from you, although I do suggest you try this delicious alternative in its place for 4 weeks and see how the body responds!

ABOUT THE INGREDIENTS

The ingredients in this hormone balancing elixir aren’t all that complicated, in fact, I have kept it super simple because who wants to have 10 different ingredients they have to mix together every day!

The ingredients that I have included however are HIGH QUALITY sources… and therefore it is important that you use a brand you trust or one I have listed below, as it will make a difference to not only the taste, but more importantly the benefits!

  1. MACA ROOT POWDER (gelatinized)

Originating in Peru, the yellow maca root is the most commonly found form, and is known for its benefits of balancing hormones, increasing libido, helping the body handle stress, and perfect during transitional phases (e.g. during your cyclic years or menopause).

2. ORGANIC CACAO POWDER

Cacao is also derived from Peru (at least the ceremonial and high grades are), and is known for its cognitive benefits, boosting our antioxidants, mental health and response to inflammation which is particularly key in balancing our hormones. It is the perfect substitute for coffee as you still get the little boost of brain powder, but it is also heart opening and doesn’t have the same energy crash!

I use @selenohealth’s chocolate maca powder (use code ‘SHEREE10’ for 10% off) that actually combines both the cacao and maca in one mix, but you can buy both as separate ingredients on their website.

3. DAIRY-FREE COLLAGEN CREAMER

This has been a more recent addition to my hormone balancing latte, and you can definitely make it without it, but I find that it is a delicious addition! Collagen is known in the beauty world for its positive effect on our skin, hair and nails, but even more importantly collagen is incredible for our gut health… which in turn supports our hormones! Not to mention it’s a little hit of protein to keep the blood sugars stable (again, quite the opposite to coffee).

I personally use @doseandco dairy free collagen creamer in my morning mug, they have a variety of yummy flavours, so it’s helpful to mix it up (caramel is my fave).

So there you have it, it’s super simple! All you will need is the above ingredients, your choice of milk and a milk frother (if you have one - otherwise a stove top will do).

HOW TO PUT IT TOGETHER

Ingredients:

-  1 tbsp. @selenohealth chocolate maca powder (use ‘SHEREE10’ for 10% off) or 1 tsp. maca powder + 1 tsp. cacao powder)

-  1 serve of @doseandco dairy-free collagen creamer (flavour of your choice)

-  Milk of choice (I personally use unsweetened almond milk)

Method:

1.  Add milk into frother and fill to just below max line (or on stove top)

2. Add in the powders and press the button to allow it to mix
** If you are using the stove, make sure it is on low to medium heat and allow the mix to simmer for 5 or so minutes**

3. Pour into your mug and enjoy!

If you do make this, be sure to tag me on social media @shereehannahwellness and let me know what topping creations you come up with, I am always looking for more inspo!

ENJOY!

Top 3 Tips For PCOS

TOP 3 TIPS FOR PCOS (Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome)

29 / SEPTEMBER / 2021
SHEREE'S HEALTH DIARIES

It’s PCOS awareness month (and I am a little late to the party), but I am here to wrap it up with a bang! So what is PCOS, why does it matter, and what can we do about it!

Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome is something that over 100,000,000 women are affected by, and is therefore considered the most common endocrine disorder in women of reproductive age (endocrine = hormonal system).

It is an inflammatory endocrine disorder that is typically a result of high androgens (and often elevated luteinizing hormone - LH). Essentially both prevent your ovarian follicles (eggs) from reaching ovulation (the release of the egg) or delays ovulation which is why women with PCOS can experience irregular or absent periods.

It also has a significant impact on infertility, which can be heartbreaking and extremely challenging for those diagnosed with this syndrome.

PCOS can also lead to other symptoms including:

-  Weight gain
-  Acne
-  Oily skin
-  Hair thinning/hair loss
-  Unwanted body hair (on places like face and arms)

WHAT CAN YOU DO TO SUPPORT YOUR BODY

The good news is, there is a LOT you can do to support your body if you have PCOS, to optimise your body for your health, and fertility if that should ever be a goal. In fact, it is a condition that can be reversed and healed!! I’ve shared my top 3 below!

BALANCE YOUR BLOOD SUGAR LEVELS

I have said it before and I will say it again… this is THE number one thing you can do to balance your hormones! Insulin dysregulation or resistance can alter both FSH and LH production and therefore can lead to the CYSTS actually forming on your ovaries.

You want to eat whole real foods that include a high quality source of protein, e.g. lean cuts of meat, high quality fats like walnuts and avocado, and plenty of leafy greens to support your liver and gut health!

Carbs are also essential for healthy hormones, but the quality of carbohydrates are the most important when we are looking at PCOS. So root veggies like potato, sweet potato, pumpkin and wholegrains (preferably gluten free) are going to be your go to’s.

DO NOT USE THE PILL TO MAKE YOUR CYCLES ‘REGULAR’

This is like turning off the smoke alarm without putting out the fire. The pill, or other hormonal contraceptives, only exacerbate the issue further, by shutting down ovulation completely.

It may feel like it is working temporarily, but it is not the solution! Instead, balance your insulin and androgens with the tips above, and keep stress to a minimum, making time for you during your day. Try mediation, journaling, or yoga!

FOCUS ON YOUR CIRCADIAN RHYTHM

As PCOS is an issue of ovulation, and cycles are most often irregular, it is super important that you focus on getting your daily rhythm regular, before you can think about getting your monthly rhythm regular.

As females we have both our circadian rhythm (24 hour cycle) and infradian rhythm (monthly cycle). So, we must first balance one, then the other. One of the best ways to do this is through establishing a good sleep pattern.

Focus on waking and sleeping at the same time every day over the next few weeks to allow the body to bring the circadian rhythm back into balance. It sounds simple, but the body loves the fundamentals, routine and consistency, and without enough or regular sleep, nothing in the body is going to be happy!

Mental Health And Gut Health

HOW GUT HEALTH IMPACTS YOUR MENTAL HEALTH

22 / SEPTEMBER / 2021
SHEREE'S HEALTH DIARIES

It’s becoming common knowledge that your gut is in fact your second brain… did you know they are actually made up of the same tissue! That is one of the reasons why they communicate so effectively!

Have you ever had that feeling where you just know in your gut, that something is right, or wrong? That is both intuition and your little microbes and gut trying to communicate with you.

It’s often strange when I first talk to clients about this, how little of an impact they are aware of their food on their mood, yet after a few weeks in, it is one of the biggest changes they witness… not only their moods, but their overall mindset has lifted!

Our gut is home to trillions (let me say that again… TRILLIONS 1,000,000,000,000… yes that many zeros of microbes! Little organisms that you are playing host to inside of your gut. Isn’t it just crazy when you think about it. That is more microbes than human cells. It is no wonder they have such an impact on our health.

HOW GUT HEALTH & MENTAL HEALTH ARE LINKED

Hippocrates said around 2500 years ago, that ‘ALL DISEASE BEGINS IN THE GUT’ and in my humble opinion he wasn’t wrong, nor was he just talking about physical disease either. Mental health is a disease that is becoming more widespread, particularly in the last 18 months… The state of the world has fast tracked this for a huge number of people.

During the lockdowns in Europe, medications for anxiety and depression went up by around 70%, suicide rates skyrocketed, and EVERYONE, and I mean EVERYONE felt the impact that this pandemic has had on their mental state.

It is Mental Health Awareness Week here in New Zealand, and it is of the utmost importance that we start to bring more and more attention to this as a growing pandemic of it’s own.

One of the key ways to support our mental health that often surprises people is actually through our food, and supporting our microbiome (gut environment), as this is where 95% of our serotonin is produced (your happiness hormone).

In all honesty, to think the two are unrelated would be completely misguided!

HOW TO SUPPORT YOUR GUT HEALTH

When it comes to supporting our gut health for our mental health, you want to focus on eating whole, real foods, the less processed the better (the bad bacteria LOVE sugar). You also want to include things that grow the good guys like a high quality probiotic - BePure and Just Thrive are two of my favourite brands when it comes to this! Probiotics are great at crowding the bad guys out, and supporting a repopulation of your microbiome.

I actually have a number of my clients do a gut healing protocol to not only support the microbiome, but help with their mental health… this is inside my Reclaim Your Radiance Program, but I did create a 2 week reset for your gut health if you want to check it out here!

I have had a number of clients come off their anxiety or depression medication as a result of healing their gut, but if this is you I advise you do so under supervision of a doctor and work with a holistic nutritionist.

Also, it may sound strange, but to support both your mental health, and allow the gut to produce optimal levels of serotonin, do a bit of a dopamine detox! High levels of dopamine production (our addictive, to-do list hormone), depletes the production of serotonin.

So try to stay away from screens for a day, or immerse yourself in nature, journal or meditate and get to a place of stillness to allow the body to recharge it’s serotonin stores!

Finally, mental health is a battle, it is an illness, and often those struggling the most will not reach out for support, so please… check in on your friends and family, give smiles and hugs, share love and warmth, you never know just how much of a difference it makes.

I am here for you too, always!

Yours in Health,
Sheree xo

Bounty Bar Bites Raw Treat Recipe

RAW BOUNTY BAR BITES RECIPE

15 / SEPTEMBER / 2021
SHEREE'S HEALTH DIARIES

Straight out of the Reclaim Your Radiance Wholefoods Recipe Book… my bounty bites! These little delights are vegan, gluten free, refined sugar free, but most definitely not FUN free!

Bounty bites are one of the most popular creations inside RYR so I thought I’d share a little taster with you! If you are a lover of coconut you are in the right place!

Coconut is a fantastic form of MCTs (medium chain triglycerides), whilst it has had a bad wrap for being high in saturated fats, MCT’s are actually super powerful when it comes to being antibacterial and antifungal (SIBO and candida I’m looking at you).

Coconut (and it’s oil), are a high quality fat source that have been linked to improved cognitive function, as well as increasing satiety (fullness), which as a result can help with weight loss. This is something to be mindful of though, as it is still a very high fat food and like all good quality fats, should be enjoyed in moderation (like a portion of one of these bounty bite slices).

MCT’s like coconut due to their shorter chains, are actually more easily digestible too! And because of the bonus of being antibacterial/antifungal this is another win for your gut! Check out the recipe below:

INGREDIENTS

Makes around 20 servings

-  3 & ½ cups shredded unsweetened coconut
-  1 tbsp. unsweetened vanilla extract
-  ½ cup coconut cream
-  1 tbsp. coconut oil
-  2 tbsp. vanilla plant/collagen protein powder

1 – 2 tbsp. stevia (optional) to sweeten

Why I Am Thankful I Was On The Pill

WHY I AM THANKFUL I WAS ON THE PILL… MY OCP JOURNEY

8 / SEPTEMBER / 2021
SHEREE'S HEALTH DIARIES

BUT WHAT WILL HAPPEN TO MY SKIN?? I remember saying to my holistic nutritionist at the time, when she told me that considering all my other symptoms (weight gain, extreme fatigue, low libido, digestive issues, mood swings and anxiety) that coming off the pill might be a good idea.

I still can’t believe that at 14 years old I was on this kind of medication that could derail me for YEARS after stopping it.

I also can’t believe just how MISINFORMED I was when I was handed this little packet and told that it would clear up my teenage acne, and eventually help me as a contraceptive

I remember asking time after time, specialist after doctor, are you sure this is fine for me to take? Is it really okay to just skip my period month after month? Is it really not contributing to my anxiety, weight gain or fatigue?

The answer every time… OF COURSE NOT! It’s just the pill, everyone takes it and there’s no real side effects.

Fast forward almost 10 years, and I had leaky gut, adrenal fatigue, no sex drive at all, an emotional wreck for majority of the month, anxiety, brain fog, and a severe estrogen dominance

And the worst part, by this stage, the breakouts were breaking through too!

It honestly breaks my heart to see this little pill being handed out like candy with no real warnings or understanding about the TRUE side effects you may face.

Don’t get me wrong, there is a place for it, and some people’s only option, but honestly, if I knew then what I know now (aside from the fact it brought me into this incredible job as a holistic nutritionist and hormone coach), I wouldn’t have touched that nasty packet with a 10 foot pole!

MY JOURNEY

I can still remember crying inside a gynaecologist's office, who belittled me and tore all my beliefs to shreds, disregarding any of the ‘non-conventional’ information I was discussing and laughing in my face when I told her I felt like there was something wrong with my hormones…

And I didn’t want to go BACK on the pill.

Yup, that was her only solution, otherwise the symptoms must all be in my head, or gut. But it certainly wasn’t a hormonal problem *eye roll*

Well, she couldn’t have been more wrong! After I demanded an ultrasound, we soon found out I had a cyst on my right ovary that had been causing me the crippling pain… which led me down an even deeper healing journey to bring my hormones back into balance.

WHY I AM THANKFUL

This was but one experience of many that I had as a result of my poorly balanced hormones. After being on the OCP for 10 years, it was no wonder my body was in a shambles, and took a number of months (years) to recover.

But for this, I thank the pill… for without it I wouldn’t have experienced all the horrific side effects, the lies, the pain and the mistreatment. I wouldn’t know what it was like to be in the shoes of many of my clients today. I wouldn’t have gone searching for the natural solution, a solution that has helped me heal hundreds of women's hormone imbalances to this day.

So, tiny little pill, despite the damage you did to my body, mind and relationships… Fortunately I can and have been able to heal, I THANK YOU.

Thank you for all of the heart ache and pain for it has led me to my purpose, my mission, this incredible life of helping serve other women on their journeys and help them heal in a deeply transformative way.

I like to think everything in life is a lesson, and that is exactly what this little pill was, a gift for me to see my own gifts, to share my story and help other women rise to understand their body’s and true capabilities! I am forever thankful for this lesson and my own journey, my only hope is that it helps you too!

Healthy Vegan Taco Recipe

HEALTHY VEGAN TACO RECIPE

1 / SEPTEMBER / 2021
SHEREE'S HEALTH DIARIES

There were so many requests for this on my instagram, I just had to share this recipe with you! (Btw… I am not vegan, but I love this recipe as a meat free meal, and it keeps my partner - who is vegetarian - very happy).

Unlike a lot of the vegan recipes I see on line, this one is actually PACKED full of protein! For people who are vegetarian or vegan it can be really hard to find protein rich sources of food.

In fact one of the most common things I see people deficient in when they follow a vegan or vegetarian diet is B12, folate, iron and a lack of protein to help balance their hormones and rebuild their bodies!

Whilst chickpeas, lentils, legumes, nuts and seeds contain protein… it is a fraction of what people actually need. Did you know we should be aiming for roughly 25g of protein per meal (as a female - this varies greatly depending on exercise, health etc).

But, do you eat anywhere close to that quantity? There is only 9g protein per 100g of lentils, so you’d have to eat almost 300g of lentils just to get your protein hit for your lunch. Now I dunno about you, but that’s far too many lentils in one sitting for me (or my gut).

So, in this recipe I’ve used @sunfedmeats chicken free chicken for a wicked protein punch! This is a fantastic vegan alternative that not only has over 25g of protein per serve, but has added B12, folate and iron to support your overall health (and hormones).

I’ve also used a vegan mayo (but you’re welcome to use a regular one if you aren’t vegan), and you can add vegan cheese. Check out the recipe below:

INGREDIENTS: (MAKES 3 TACOS)

-  100g Sunfed Meats chicken free chicken

-  ½ packet of Farrah’s taco seasoning (or other taco spice mix alternative)

-  1 handful precut bag of coleslaw (not dressed)

-  3 tbsp. Ceres Organics vegan mayonnaise

-  3 x Tio Pablo corn tortillas

-  3 x small vine tomatoes

-  3 tbsp. Seasons Gourmet red pepper and cashew dip

-  2 tbsp. olive oil

METHOD

  1. Defrost the chicken free chicken and pull apart into tiny pieces ‘pulled chicken’ kind of look
  2. On a low - medium heat, add 1 tbsp. olive oil to a frying pan, wait until it heats up a little and then add in your chicken free chicken
  3. Add in the next tbsp. of olive oil on top of the chicken free chicken, and mix through well (this will help the seasoning stick and absorb better)
  4. Add the taco seasoning and mix thoroughly coating all of the chicken free chicken, then leave to simmer for 1 - 3 minutes (it doesn’t take long)
  5. Spread the red pepper and cashew dip on the tortillas whilst waiting
  6. Then once the chicken free chicken is done, add to the tortillas, top with sliced tomatoes, coleslaw and vegan mayo
  7. Enjoy!

ENJOY!
