SHEREE'S HEALTH DIARIES
I am the leanest, lightest, happiest, and healthiest I have been in almost a decade…
And it isn't from being on a diet or doing a protocol or a whole host of supplements that I've been taking. It’s from mastering the basics
HOW I MASTERED THE BASICS
- Regulating my nervous system
I stopped letting cortisol have a chokehold on my life, and it shows. Your stress levels directly dictate if your body can burn fat, or if it’s stuck in fight-or-flight, burning glucose only. - Eating real foods 80% of the time
I fundamentally believe food is medicine and we can use it to heal and change our bodies for the better. Of course, everything in moderation, which is why I aim for at least 80% whole foods. - Finding my community
Having been surrounded by an incredibly supportive and loving community, I’ve had the chance to make connections to fulfil me and help me on my journey. - Drinking 3+ litres of water a day
This might seem like a lot (I know everyone tells you to stop at 2 litres), but hydration is the single most important thing for your body to function. You need to keep yourself hydrated to shed excess weight, too. - Apple cider vinegar before meals
This is incredible for avoiding a blood sugar spike (which would normally signal to your body to store more fat over time), as well as reducing blood sugar dips, stabilising your appetite, too. - Moving my body in ways I love
I’ve always loved training in the gym, BUT there are also other ways in which I move my body daily. I absolutely love walking or doing a soul cycle class. It’s all about balance and finding what works for you. - Listening to my body, always
I trust in what my body asks for, whether that’s an extra rest day, certain food, practising gratitude and self-care. Most importantly, I give my body the respect it deserves and never talk down on myself! - Spending time in nature
Absolutely nothing beats getting some sun and fresh air, grounding yourself in nature, and getting some movement in at the same time, too. It’s the most fundamental way to heal, recover, and reduce stress. - Starting my day with movement
Okay, I talk about how much I love working out but seriously, my favourite thing to do is start my day with any type of movement. This kick starts your metabolism, supports blood sugar levels, and boosts your mood! - Prioritising NEAT every single day
NEAT stands for non-exercise activity thermogenesis, and refers to ways in which we expend energy aside from exercise-related activity, for example things like walking, cooking, or gardening. - Practising gratitude daily
And finally... maybe the most important thing for me, and I couldn’t have shed those 10 lbs without this. Gratitude practices help me stay centred and in tune with myself. Plus, this helps reduce stress (cortisol) levels, which as I mentioned is one of the main things you need to prioritise to burn body fat.

Why I Am Drinking Coffee Again
WHY I’M DRINKING COFFEE AGAIN…
27 / SEPTEMBER / 2023
SHEREE'S HEALTH DIARIES
After a 6+ year hiatus 😅
If you’ve followed me for any length of time, you’ll know it’s always an HBL (hormone balancing latte) in the morning for me, no caffeine
What you may not be aware of is WHY
Back when I was studying nutrition at University I was consuming caffeine like it was going out of fashion
Wake up - black coffee before opening the gym
Drive to uni - energy drink
During lectures - energy drink
Driving home - energy drink to stimulate me for my afternoon clients
Studying after dinner - coffee
And yes I could go straight to sleep after this
My days were 4.30am - 11pm and I’m sure all that was keeping me going was the caffeine running through my veins
I had to drink so much because I was literally so tired all the time, and I thought more caffeine was the answer
THE BENEFITS OF CUTTING OUT COFFEE
It wasn’t until I finished my post grad that I just stopped cold turkey.. any and all caffeine
Suddenly the 10 lbs I’d been trying to lose disappeared, I no longer felt anxious, my moods were more stable and I had an abundance of energy
It wasn’t long after that I learnt what I’d been going through was something they termed back then ‘adrenal fatigue’
The more I looked into it, the more I realised I’d been wiring my nervous system into a chronic sympathetic state
Living in fight or flight constantly by my daily cups of cortisol (aka caffeine)
Fortunately for me, I had stopped the caffeine purely because it wasn’t of need anymore, I’d simply used it for a function and then no longer needed it
I didn’t like the taste, so I didn’t miss it at all
Then learning all the crazy effects it has been having on me was the reason I kept it out
I started noticing this with my clients, even though they didn’t consume anywhere near as much caffeine as me, simply taking a break for 4 weeks was enough
Enough to see stubborn weight shift
Enough to shift their mood highs and lows
Enough to balance our their energy levels
Enough to start seeing a change in their hormones + monthly cycle
So I became the biggest advocate for living caffeine free… until now
WHAT CHANGED?
Don’t get me wrong, I’d always encourage my clients to try it out, it didn’t mean giving it up for life, just seeing how THEIR body reacted and what served them
And I’ll always continue to advocate for that
But in the past 6 weeks or so, I’ve had more cups of coffee than I have in the last 6 years!!
And my body is handling it so well…
I have noticed a little energy dip in the arvo, but other than that, it hasn’t bought back the same awful side effects I’d been experiencing
And I know a huge part of this is my nervous system is now so much more regulated
My stress levels have drastically dropped, and I’m feeling so much calmer and happier in myself
I’m also making sure I have breakfast with plenty of protein first, and don’t touch a cup until I’ve been up for at least 90 minutes
It’s about working smarter and with your body, rather than against it
Coffee itself has a number of benefits, and just like most things, it has its place, it’s just determining what that is for you

Should You Drink Alcohol
TO DRINK OR NOT TO DRINK?
30 / AUGUST / 2023
SHEREE'S HEALTH DIARIES
Should you drink alcohol or will it have too much of a negative impact on your health and goals?
We all know that alcohol isn't good for us... the body literally treats it like poison, but I'll be the first to say it, there's nothing quite like a margarita on a sunny day or a wine with the girls, or even a lychee martini to help you get your groove on
Am I right?
But when does it become too much?
Honestly if we're looking at this from an optimal health perspective, alcohol would practically be off the menu, aside from the odd glass of red with dinner for the antioxidants
But that's just not realistic
Whilst I know that some of us choose to never take a sip of alcohol, for those of us that do, it can be a real battle finding balance. My philosophy has, and always will be around whether the alcohol will serve me in that moment and if it is a special occasion I'm personally not one to have a drink during the week (unless it's a super special event), or to even have a drink every month.
In fact, I can very easily go months without drinking, but I can also go months (like July - birthday month) where I am drinking every weekend The important thing to remember with alcohol is that not only does it loosen your inhibitions, but it damages your internal organs + cells, affects your metabolism, throws your blood sugar out of balance, sends your hormones into haywire and can catapult your mood into a downward spiral.
So IMO when I do have a drink... it better be worth all of that damage.
MY ADVICE
Obviously the choice is yours, and I am not here to tell you what to do, however, my go-to tip is always to ask yourself 'Will this serve me in this moment?'
- Maybe it's a dear friends birthday
- Maybe it's a wedding celebration
- Maybe it's a f*cken rough time and you just want one
Or maybe... it's not really what you want or need at that time
Operating from this space allows me to have a healthy relationship with alcohol and minimise the harm done to my body and mind whilst allowing me to enjoy myself when I want to.
However, if you’re going through a true period of healing your body, I will often recommend a period of complete sobriety to my clients to allow the healing to occur and then shift into creating that healthy balance.
FINAL THOUGHTS
I'm curious, what are your thoughts around drinking alcohol? Let me know in the comments

WHAT WORKOUTS DO TO YOUR HORMONES
Or better yet, what they do for your hormones
I actually started off as a personal trainer, way before I began my journey as a health coach.
And trust me when I say I know the importance of movement for hormonal health!
Everything I preach and teach about I did myself first.
HOW WORKOUTS HELP YOUR HORMONES
I give all of my clients a bespoke workout program to help them heal, because workouts help:
✨ Manage menopause / perimenopause symptoms
Exercise can reduce symptoms like hot flashes, night sweats, and mood fluctuations by supporting regular hormone levels and helping you avoid the dreaded hormone slump that comes with perimenopause.
🍰 Promote insulin sensitivity
This one's for my PCOS girls! As you know, insulin sensitivity can be a symptom of PCOS (but also other hormonal imbalances, too). Physical activity improves insulin sensitivity by helping blood sugar regulation. This in turn supports your s*x hormone levels overall.
🩸 Reduce PMS Symptoms
Physical activity can alleviate your PMS symptoms like mood swings, bloating, and fatigue, partly due to its hormone regulation properties, and partly due to the release of endorphins during exercise.
😃 Enhance your mood
Workouts trigger the release of feel-good chemicals like dopamine and serotonin, promoting feelings of happiness and reducing stress, anxiety, and depression. Perfect if you feel super irritable right before or during your period!
🧠 Controls cortisol levels
Moderate exercise helps control cortisol, the stress hormone, preventing it from reaching chronically high levels, which can have negative effects on various bodily functions.
🤍 Support thyroid function
Regular exercise may support thyroid function, which is crucial for your metabolism AND hormonal balance.
FINAL THOUGHTS
If working out feels way too hectic, or going into a gym is super overwhelming, I can teach you how to work out at your own pace and still see results 💪
If you comment "RYR" below I'll send you the details to my transformational health program, it includes all kinds of workouts for your overall health, and you can see if the program feels right for you 💘

The Cholesterol Myth
THE CHOLESTEROL MYTH
02 / AUGUST / 2023
SHEREE'S HEALTH DIARIES
Why you should stop swapping your butter for margarine… and how cholesterol positively affects your hormones
STOP trying to lower cholesterol 🙅🏼♀️especially through your diet! It could be hurting your hormones! Let me explain:
Our bodies are smart – they know what to do (even if you eat a few extra slices of bacon one day 😉). Your body KNOWS that it needs to metabolise (break down) cholesterol. But it needs key nutrients to do so.
If we just try to lower cholesterol we end up just lowering our ability to produce sex hormones… And this leads to:
🩸 Heavier periods with heaps of PMS symptoms
😮 Losing your libido
💤 Low energy levels
🍕 Slower metabolism
This isn't a solution!
Keep reading to to understand why this can happen, and for what you SHOULD be doing if you've been told you need to "watch your cholesterol"
ABOUT THE CHOLESTEROL MYTH
Firstly 80% of your cholesterol is made by the liver, your dietary intake only contributes 20% to the total cholesterol in your body.
We actually need cholesterol to make our mother hormone pregnenolone, which can then convert into progesterone and then cortisol, estrogen and testosterone.
Cholesterol is a key factor for hormone production… but we need key nutrients to convert it into hormones, specifically zinc and essential fatty acids. If you’re deficient in zinc or essential fatty acids, then cholesterol can’t be converted into pregnenolone and that’s when it accumulates and becomes a problem for the liver to deal with.
Some great sources of zinc include: oysters, dark chocolate, chickpeas, eggs, pumpkin seeds and spinach. And for your essential fatty acids, try adding in avocados, oily fish like salmon and tuna, walnuts, seaweed, hemp seeds and kidney beans. Make sure you get those key nutrients in to support your body's natural breakdown of cholesterol.
We also need to make sure that we optimise your liver function (this tends to be where I start when it comes to high cholesterol levels), as this is the deeper issue often in combination with the deficiencies.
It is also why I don’t recommend cutting out high cholesterol foods like butter and eggs, because they aren’t the problem and they won’t be what makes the big difference in your cholesterol balancing out and you feeling more energised.

SHEREE'S HEALTH DIARIES
Dear Beautiful Soul,
You’re not going to believe where you are right now. The smile on your face cannot be shaken and the love in your heart will never fade. You are sharing your light, you are sharing your gifts with the world and you are expanding and exploding with joy.
Your soul aligned mission on this earth that has been divinely guided is being lived in right here, right now.
I know where you are in this moment is tough, I know that it feels like the world is crumbling around you and at times like it is all too much. I know that this is not where or how you pictured your life at this point and I want you to know that it is okay to grieve that.
I also want you to know that it is all coming. This is the initiation. A chance for you to reset. To realign your life to your higher calling, to your deeper purpose and also a chance for you to be the fullest, most beautiful expression of yourself.
It is by stepping into this version of yourself that you will attract everything that you’ve ever wanted and more, and let me tell you… it is SO MUCH MORE than you could’ve ever dreamed.
I want to take a moment to see you, to recognise the strength you have had, the vulnerability you have shown, the beauty you have been amongst the chaos and your willingness to continue the fight.
I also want you to take a moment to acknowledge how far you have come and how much you have accomplished, your younger self would be so proud of you if she could see the woman you have become now. Honour that.
You are beautiful, loving, kind and beyond words. This life may not be kind at times, but remember… No one else in this world can do what you do, the way you do it, and that my darling is your superpower.
It is my hope for you that you will trust the path you are on right now, and know that God/Universe/Source has your back every step of the way.
I wish you could see yourself the way the world sees you, you light up every room you are in, your heart transcends the time, space and fear and allows others to feel safe and seen, your ability to simply be is enough. You are enough, exactly as you are.
I love you. I love you. I love you. Thank you for being you, thank you for existing and remember to never stop shining your beautiful light, the world needs you. I need you. You are enough.
And so it is.
With love,
Your Higher Self

THIS IS WHAT’S DRAINING YOUR ENERGY
21 / JUNE / 2023
SHEREE'S HEALTH DIARIES
More sleep isn't the answer to your lingering fatigue
Sure, more rest can definitely help you feel less tired, but you need to address what the underlying issue is that's draining your energy in the first place
You might see this everywhere, but gut inflammation is very closely linked to fatigue
If your body is constantly inflamed from the foods you're eating, the stress you're feeling, or not recovering effectively from training, it will really start to zap your energy levels
REASONS GUT INFLAMMATION IS MAKING YOU FEEL TIRED
These are the top 3 reasons why gut inflammation is causing you to feel tired all of the time:
1. You're not absorbing nutrients from your food
Gut inflammation can lead to poor nutrient absorption, meaning you're not getting enough vitamins and minerals from the food you're eating, leading to fatigue and low energy.
2. Your immune system is running in overdrive
The immune system uses so much energy to fight inflammation and repair damaged tissues, which can take away from your daily energy stores and make you feel fatigued.
3. Your hormonal balance is completely disrupted
Gut inflammation negatively affects the production of hormones, particularly cortisol, causing imbalances that could be contributing to your decreased energy levels and your feelings of fatigue.

5 Hormones Affecting Your Ability To Lose Weight
5 HORMONES AFFECTING YOUR ABILITY TO LOSE WEIGHT
7 / JUNE / 2023
SHEREE'S HEALTH DIARIES
Hormone health plays a crucial role in achieving and maintaining a healthy weight.
When it comes to weight loss, we often aren’t looking deep enough, we blame it on the food we are eating and the lack of movement and simply think more is more.
Well that’s not the case, there are so many factors that impact your ability to lose weight, and hormones are one of them. Here’s how…
HORMONES THAT AFFECT YOUR ABILITY TO LOSE WEIGHT
1. Insulin:
Insulin is a hormone responsible for regulating blood sugar levels. When insulin levels are imbalanced, such as in insulin resistance, weight gain becomes more likely. Balancing insulin through dietary changes and lifestyle modifications can support weight loss efforts.
2. Leptin:
Leptin, known as the satiety hormone, signals to your brain when you're full. However, hormonal imbalances can lead to leptin resistance, causing a disruption in appetite regulation and potentially leading to overeating. Restoring leptin sensitivity through proper nutrition and lifestyle choices can aid in weight management.
3. Cortisol:
Cortisol, the stress hormone, plays a role in metabolism and fat storage. Chronic stress can lead to elevated cortisol levels, promoting weight gain, particularly around the abdominal area. Managing stress through relaxation techniques, exercise, and self-care practices can help balance cortisol and support weight loss.
4. Thyroid Hormones:
Thyroid hormones, such as T3 and T4, regulate metabolism. When thyroid function is impaired, it can result in a slower metabolism and difficulty losing weight. Addressing underlying thyroid issues through proper medical guidance can support weight loss efforts.
5. Estrogen and Progesterone:
Hormonal imbalances, particularly in estrogen and progesterone, can impact weight regulation, water retention, and fat distribution. Restoring hormonal balance through lifestyle modifications, targeted nutrition, and, if necessary, hormonal therapies can aid in achieving weight loss goals.

5 SIMPLE STEPS TO START BALANCING YOUR HORMONES TODAY
24 / MAY / 2023
SHEREE'S HEALTH DIARIES
Here are five powerful ways to start balancing your hormones and restore balance within your body.
START BALANCING YOUR HORMONES WITH THESE STEPS
1️⃣ Nourish with leafy greens: incorporating more leafy greens into your diet can have a profound impact on hormone balance.
These nutrient-packed greens, such as spinach, kale, and Swiss chard, are rich in vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants that support hormonal health.
2️⃣ Embrace daily sunshine: getting regular sunlight exposure is crucial for hormonal balance.
Spend at least 15 minutes outdoors each day to soak up the natural vitamin D from the sun.
This not only helps regulate hormones but also boosts mood and overall well-being.
3️⃣ Connect with nature: nature has a way of bringing harmony to our bodies and minds.
Make it a priority to spend time in nature, whether it's a walk in the park, hiking, or simply sitting under a tree.
The serene environment can help reduce stress and promote hormonal equilibrium.
4️⃣ Deep belly breaths: taking deep belly breaths throughout the day can activate the relaxation response and help regulate your hormones.
Practice deep breathing exercises by inhaling slowly through your nose, allowing your belly to rise, and exhaling fully through your mouth.
5️⃣ Cultivate mindfulness: carve out time each day for a mindful activity that brings you joy and tranquillity.
It could be meditation, yoga, journaling, or simply savouring a cup of herbal tea.
Mindfulness helps reduce stress, promotes emotional well-being, and supports hormonal balance.
FINAL THOUGHTS
Remember, these steps are not only beneficial for your hormones but also for your overall well-being.
Start incorporating these practices today and experience the transformative power of balanced hormones in your life! 🌸💫

SHEREE'S HEALTH DIARIES
It's time you were taken seriously when you have concerns about your health.
It has brought me to tears the last few weeks, not just what I’m about to share, but all the stories that followed in your messages and comments on my Instagram post about this very topic.
I am a huge advocate for patient/client care and believe that the holistic approach, and the work myself and other like minded practitioners do, should be a collaborative effort with medical professionals like doctors for whoever needs care that is in front of us, it’s not one or the other.
But I wanted to share this story with you, because I know too many women who have been told their blood work was ‘normal’ and that they just have to live with it… this is not the case, and certainly wasn’t the case for my client whose story I am sharing with you below.
ADVOCATING FOR YOURSELF
So this happened just over a week ago…
I had a client that just couldn't shift weight, a few things had popped up in the limited blood work her doctor had permitted her to do, but things just weren't working.
She was eating PERFECTLY, like I take my hat off to her, whole real nourishing foods, following protocols 100%, yet the weight wasn't shifting and I knew there was more to the picture (another reason why testing is so important)... we have to get to the root cause.
She went to her doctor about the weight loss issue, asking to investigate this further and requested a few more bloods. To which the doctor refused the blood work, blamed her weight on assumed case of PCOS, and then told her she shouldn't be working with a nutritionist (aka me) because we don't know what we're talking about - she actually said a lot worse about me but I'll leave it out.
So I took matters into my own hands, reached out to my own personal doctor to enable her to get these extra tests done, and GUESS WHAT HAPPENED?
She was diagnosed with an AUTOIMMUNE CONDITION of her thyroid, and her blood readings were off the charts! (meaning that this has most likely been going on for a long time under the radar).
This completely explains why she's been unable to lose the weight, and has actually been feeling progressively worse no matter how many healthy changes she made in her diet and life.
FINAL THOUGHTS
Left untreated and ignored this could've been so much worse, and I am so grateful we pushed and got to the root cause for her... we both knew something wasn't right and there was more to this picture.
So let this serve as a reminder... no matter what YOU know your body best, trust your intuition, and if something doesn't seem right, don't be afraid to keep questioning it until you get REAL answers!
