Your gut (a.ka. digestive system) is a wondrous part of our body. It includes everything from your teeth, all the way through to the stomach, intestines and the exit point!
In fact one of my favourite quotes is by Hippocrates “All Disease Begins in the Gut”. Which is why it is fantastic that you are here taking these next steps in prioritising the health of your gut for the long run!
This can be stored everywhere, but you may notice you have one extra special roll of body fat that lives just around the belly button! Your body will struggle to shift weight if the gut can’t function properly.
Waking up tired, feeling constantly burnt out, like you just don’t get the nutrients from your food, chances are, you probably aren’t! If the gut isn’t in optimal health, you won’t be able to absorb and digest your food and therefore get the energy and vitality from it! (Which is why it’s not as simple as calories in calories out).
You know it is not safe for you to not be close to a bathroom, because when you need to go, you need to go! You feel bloated after almost every meal looking 6 months pregnant, or maybe you’re constipated for days on end! All are symptoms of irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) which is really just an unhappy gut!
Believe it or not your mood and cravings come from the little guys that live in your gut (microbiome), these little bugs if out of balanced, and you have more bad guys than good, they will crave sugar to feed them, they will also inhibit the production of our happy hormone, serotonin (of which 95% is made in the gut). So we need to make sure this balance is restored!
Whether it be breakouts, eczema, dandruff, itchy dry skin, or psoriasis, chances are your gut is trying to get your attention. Your gut is a detoxification organ and if it can’t get rid of the toxins through your bowels, it will also push them out into your skin (also an organ), so that you start to pay attention!
